Birch plywood is most commonly used with Laser work and is available in 1.5mm, 3mm, 6mm, 9mm and 12mm thicknesses. It is the perfect material for Laser work due to its strength which means it can be intricately cut. Colour variations may occur between separate individual sheets and the finish is grained.

MDF is also commonly used in Laser work for the same reasons as Plywood. Although as it is manufactured and not a natural product it is more consistent in appearance.

Veneer sheets are generally made from an MDF sheets with a layer of natural wood veneer on either side. Due to this there can be differences in colour and grain from sheet to sheet.

Raster Engraving :-  A Clear and detailed finish is obtainable with most types of wood. Some colour change may occur, as the material is burnt away. Variations in depths can also easily produced. Though this may lead to more colouring of the surface.

Vector Engrave / Cutting :- As with Raster, a high level of detail and finish are obtainable. The colour of the finish can be lighter or darker dependant on the wood used and the directives given.
